Old folks
Tales talking,
Young lads
Stories listening.
Gurgling voices
Oldly trembling,
Half-sleeping armpits,
Half-awakened eyelids.
Music softly going:
"I'll tell you this,
You'd better listen,
Look 'ere with care
Don't dare you missin'.
You ain't half as dead
A man as I am
So your eyes and ears
I am now buyin'
With no sweet talks but
Truths from life so blinkin'
A life of shames, and urge, and drinkin'."
Thus started first
The black man-giant.
His palms, though, white were
White his soul would not be
But black it wasn't either.
He moaned and cursed, and spit, and padded,
Then deeply hushed his tongue and started...
